So the thing I am most scared for is not filling the pages, but more importantly it doesn’t connect. I feel like it not going to make much sense, I have so many thought in my head and it is hard to have them make sense on paper. So other than that, I feel like my thesis isn’t strong enough, but I am going to have to make it be other wise I have to start all over, which would be lame. So I guess it just means me sitting down and actually reading over what I am writing because I am pretty bad at careless mistakes. I am very glad that I took this class instead of another english 101, no other class would let us pick our favortie movie and write 8 pages on it. Thanks Allison!
So What? Friendship, Thats Whats Up
During our free write today we broke it down into parts: part 1 look over what you have done with the movie, part 2 answer a list of questions you wrote down, part 3 write down a scene, talk about characters, primary or secondary sources, part 4 a have conversation with yourself, and part 5 So What?. The part that I got myself to put out new ideas that I didn’t really write down before was part 4. This is what I came up with.
- What is the “bro-mance” anyways?
- Well it’s a relationship men have, it’s the male version of what females have, “girl-friends”
- Why is it so important?
- It is important because it is a deeper connection then just having a friend
- What role does it play in your movie?
- Well Joe and Jerry portray this because they stick together
- So what does that have to do with it?
- Jerry would do anything for Joe, like hock his winter coat when it is below freezing outside. In mostly every friendship one friend stands our more, I believe it’s almost always like that. Joe stands out more than Jerry and Jerry know that but he is okay with it, which is why Jerry stays with Joe. Joe wouldn’t be the same without Jerry; it is like having a Peanut Butter and Jelly with out the Jelly. Their relationship is like that one would not be the same without the other. We see this relationship in lots of movies, like the friendship that is in Pineapple Express, the drug dealer didn’t have to follow the guy who saw the murder he could have lead the head guy to where the guy lived and killed him but no. He thought they were friends so he went with him. They may not have been friends in the first place but he thought they were so he did the right thing and followed him.
My So What sentence: Friendships can ve crazy at times, but you still stick together, Friendship is not easy, and Joe and Jerry prove this to us

It’s my Genre Now
The article that I found is Whose Genre Is It, Anyway? Thomas Wartenberg on the Unlikely Couple Film, written by Deborah Knight and George McKnight. This article is about genres and couple films the author shows how movies can be pared together and you never really realize it. Like romance for example it is not truly a genre because their is romance in every movie.
This is a selected quote from this article that I disagreed with. “Wartenberg seems to rest his contention that Joe E. Brown & Daphne are a gay couple on the film’s final gag.”
- I really doubt that this is what the author of the movie was going for. If you watch this movie you would now that this is the total opposite. Gerry (who is really Daphne) when he first put on his falsies and both him and Joe/Josphine get on the train Gerry goes a little crazy. He tells Joe about how when he was a kid he used to dream about getting into a bakery and have all the sugar around him, and his dream was coming true. Later that night he would of blew his cover but Sugar happens to invite people to his special party, which inhibits Gerry from telling the truth about being a guy. Also you can see the Joe E. Brown’s character is a little out of tune if you watch the movie, you can tell due to the famous last lines of this movie “Well Nobody’s Perfect” after Gerry reveals that he is a guy. I think that he wasn’t truly listening and you have to take into effect that Joe E. Brown has been married 7 or 8 times.

“We’re up the creek and you want to hock the paddle”
Set the sence: Chicago in the winter of 1921, where Joe and Jerry are without coats because they turned them in to bet on the horse Greese Lightning, they would have used money but the joint they played at got raded before they got payed and Joe was bent on betting their money on this horse who was suppose to be the best. This is after Grease Lightning had lost and they lost there winter coat.
JERRY
Well, that solves one problem. We don’t
have to worry about who to pay first.
JOE
Quiet – I’m thinking.
JERRY
Of course, the landlady is going to lock us out
- Moe said no more knackwurst on credit -
and we can’t borrow any more from the girls,
because they’re on their way to jail -
JOE
Shut up, will you? I wonder how much Sam
the Bookie will give up for our overcoats?
JERRY
Sam the Bookie? Nothing doing! You’re not
putting my overcoat on that dog!
JOE
I told you – it’s a sure thing.
JERRY
But we’ll freeze – it’s below zero -
we’ll catch pneumonia.
JOE
Look, stupid, he’s ten to one. Tomorrow,
we’ll have twenty overcoats!
The very next day
JERRY
Greased Lightning! Why do I listen to you?
I ought to have my head examined!
JOE
I thought you weren’t talking to me.
JERRY
Look at the bull fiddle – it’s dressed
warmer than I am.
Well as they finally make it inside, Joe starts talking about making more bets and well this time they trade in their instuments and thats when
Jerry: We’re up the creek and you want to hock the paddle.
So the bromance in all of this is that they are stuck together, even as Joe makes these stupid decisions they stick together.

I sure do like it Hot
So for our big paper I have choosen to pick the movie Some Like It Hot. It a movie from the 50s, its a black and white film based in the roaring 20s when the prohabition law was in effect. Joe and Jerry two struggling musican run into some trouble with the mofia not intentional trouble but coincidentally run in their path. So did i menttion that Joe gambled away all of his money plus Jerrys. There only way out is th dress up like girls and join a girls bad, that happened to be going to Florida, perfect right, gets them away from the mofia trouble. Inside of leaving the girls when they get to Florida they stay because they have became close with a girl named Sugar (marylin monroe). Well has luck has it the Mofia has a yearly get together with the main mob groups at the hotel they happen to be staying at. Well that part of the mob gets shot and all is well. Its a crazy ride throughout the whole movie. My focusing question is Why does Jerry stay with Joe when he comes up with crazy ideas. Well i believe he stays because this is his best friend he cant leave him. He could have said no to him many times but he couldnt he wanted to trust his friend. Which i think we all do that from time to time. We put our faith and trust into someone, and even if it hurts us we want to stick with that person because you love them. Well i guess that is how we live and learn right!

The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Muzak
Muzak a concept that i have heard of befdore but never really truly understood the meaning, and it is a form of background music. What comes to my mind is Norstrom. Have you ever walked into Nostrom and heard the popular songs of the past but just the instrumentals, well thats muzak. Anywho when you watch O Brother Where Art Thou? you hear lots of music and muzak. I am not too sure if i agree with Hainge’s thesis i think that in Raising Arizona this could apply. Just cuz the crazy banjo music is going and the whole movie is a wild goose chase. In O Brother Where Art Thou? the music is the movie, well thats how i would discribe it. The old time music plays throughout and makes the people crazy. Like how the SoggyBottemBoys record sold out across the country and when the song came on people went crazy. So much so that the convict where redeemed of there crimes, Homer a contestant in the goveners election who was winning, until he wanted to put the SoggyBottemBoys away the crowd dissagreed and i am pretty sure he looses the election. In this case Homer also outed himself on being a leader of the KKK in a time where African Americans were coming up and getting there rights, but it seemed like they didnt care about that as much as the music. It is crazy how much this one song had the crowd mezmorized. But music can still do that too us today it gets stuck in your head it takes you to a good feeling or memorie of when you first heard it.

It was all a Dream, i used to read word-up magazine
Was it or wasn’t a dream. I have come to the conclusion that in Raising Arizona Hi was dreaming most of what was happening. I believe that the dream started when he went to grap the baby the first time. In the paper we have been working in this weeek in class he states a part where Hi is following a baby under a crib and going to grap him, and it compares to when Small was pulling Hi from under a car. I believe that at that point he had a flash of everything that would be to come from taking the baby. Otherwise if it wasn’t a dream how could you prove something Lenard Smalls being real and having a matching tatto. Or when the “convient brothers” arise from the mud yelling, i just do not picture people coming out of the ground.. It actually makes me think about zombies lol. Anywho back to Hi, I believe that reason they flashed to the similar shot of HI and Small pulling him was to show how dream like this whole situation is. I believe as humans we sometime get carried away with our thoughts and our dreams can become so lifelike. I know i have had a dream that i am falling and i feel myself falling and then i wake up because i feel my whole body bounce on the bed. Hi could be having the same effect or portraying that. Well maybe thats what the Coen Brothers wanted us to see how real are dream can be..
Sweet Dreams!

Welcome to the crazy state of Arizona
So this movie is just a little crazy, but thats okay. The topic for my essay is, what would I do if I took a walk in there shoes. Well first I would love to say that i wouldnt steel a baby of course but what would it really be like if you were put in there shoes. Well almost every women wants to have a child of there own, and most are devistated when they can’t and they will try everything that they can. I mean have you seen Baby Mamma, come on she gets a cerigat mother to carry the baby for her. I mean how crazy is that! Anywho I thought it was pretty crazy that they both concluded it was the right thing to do, but there mind was not in the right place, I believe they were leading with there heart. I thought it was pretty funny that Ed was not going to let Hi back in the car until he got a baby, but once he did she was unsure about the whole situatuion. It just proves that babies make people crazy. It was like she was hyptnotized and the only things that she was going to set her eyes on was a baby boy or girl. It also showed me that some people are truly not always ready to have a baby, like when Hi brought the baby book from the house and said heres the manuel. Or when Ed was singing a song to Nathan Jr. about how she murdered that lady. So I guess in the long run, I personally would never steal a baby, but put in their shoes I would have to make some tough desicions.

Time to Shine
hello : )
I am now offically a member of wordpress.. guess its time to start blogging. So i am not that interested in writing a lot actually I am not a very good writer. I generally stay away from this sort of thing. Maybe since it is in a blog it will feel different. I like that this is all about your own thoughts and ideas on the subject, but I guess thats how America is. We get the chance to speak our mind. On another note, I am pretty much a nerd when it comes to movies. My movie collection is pretty werid some of it consists of Hello Dolly, Some Like it Hot, Forgetting Sarah Marshell, High School Musical 3, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Dirty Dancing, and Twilight. Just to name a few. Besides movies I love music and church, which they both work in each other. I work at Red Lobster (its a seafood place if you didnt know). O and I love Alaska, ps no I do not live in an iglue.
So pretty much all of my time goes to school, work, friends, or church. I do not ever really have time to sit back and relax, but i guess that what its like when you get older. Lots of people think I am weird because I am so wide spread in my taste of things. For example I love Hannah Montanna and High School Musical, but i can also Gavin Degraw or Dashboard Confessional. Also you should now that I get made fun of a lot for likeing Twilight, I wouldn’t say i am obessed because there are people out there more crazy than I.
Finally done!
